π How to Authenticate and Apostille Your Panama Documents for International Use
If you need to use a Panamanian document abroad, it may need to be authenticated and apostilled before it can be accepted by the authorities in the country of destination.
π 1. Obtain the Correct Document
Make sure you have a current and valid document, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, criminal record, diploma, power of attorney, notarial document, or other official record.
βοΈ 2. Authenticate or Certify the Document
Depending on the type of document, it may first need to be authenticated or certified by the appropriate Panamanian authority.
π 3. Obtain the Apostille
If the destination country is a member of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille generally replaces the traditional legalization process.
The apostille verifies the authenticity of the signature, official capacity, and seal or stamp appearing on the document. It does not certify the contents of the document.
π£οΈ 4. Check Translation Requirements
If the document will be submitted in a country where Spanish is not the official language, a certified or notarized translation may be required.
β 5. Check the Requirements of the Destination Country
Each foreign authority may have additional requirements concerning the document’s validity, translation, notarization, or format. It is important to verify these requirements before submitting your documents.
