Can a Son or Daughter Born Outside Panama to a Panamanian Citizen Obtain a Panamanian ID?

If a Panamanian parent acquired their Panamanian citizenship after the birth of their child, the child is not eligible to obtain a Panamanian ID by birth registration. However, the child can pursue naturalization to become a Panamanian citizen, thereby becoming eligible for a Panamanian ID. Although this process takes more time, it is attainable.

Alternatively, if the child was born after either parent became a Panamanian citizen, the Panamanian parent can submit an application to the Electoral Tribunal of Panama for their child to obtain a Panamanian ID and birth certificate. Consequently, the child would also be eligible for a Panamanian passport.
