If your child will be attending school abroad, the receiving school may require elementary school report cards issued in Panama to be authenticated, apostilled and translated before they can be accepted.
These documents show the student’s grades and academic progress. Preparing them correctly can help avoid delays in enrollment or placement.
📄 1. Request the Appropriate Records from the School
Contact the school in Panama and request the report cards or official academic records required by the receiving institution.
The documents must bear the school principal’s signature and the school’s official stamp. For elementary education, confirm whether a duplicate of the Modelo F is required instead of, or in addition to, ordinary report cards. MEDUCA’s published authentication requirements specifically identify this document for primary school studies.
Check that the student’s name, grade level, school year and other personal details are correct before proceeding.
🏛️ 2. Obtain Authentication from the Regional Directorate of MEDUCA
Once the school has signed and stamped the documents, submit them for authentication to the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) responsible for the school in the province where it is located.
Confirm the appropriate regional office and its requirements before submitting the documents. MEDUCA lists its Regional Directorates as the offices handling authentication of these academic records.
🌐 3. Obtain the Apostille
After completing the required MEDUCA authentication, submit the documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama for an apostille. The Ministry’s requirements for school documents identify the signature of the corresponding regional education authority as part of the authentication process.
An apostille is used when the Hague Apostille Convention applies between Panama and the destination country. Otherwise, confirm the applicable consular legalization procedure.
🗣️ 4. Check Whether a Translation Is Required
If the receiving school requires the documents in another language, confirm whether it needs a certified or sworn translation.
Ask whether the translation must include:
- The complete report card or academic record.
- The principal’s signature and school stamp.
- The MEDUCA authentication.
- The apostille.
Also confirm whether the translation requires additional authentication or must be prepared by a translator recognized in the destination country.
✓ 5. Confirm the Receiving School’s Requirements
Before starting the process, ask the receiving school or education authority to confirm:
- Which school years and grade levels must be documented.
- Whether it requires report cards, a Modelo F or other official academic records.
- Whether originals or authenticated copies are acceptable.
- Whether an apostille or consular legalization is required.
- The translation language and certification requirements.
- Whether additional enrollment or academic recognition procedures apply.
