đźź© Renewing Your Permanent Resident Card in Panama

(Issued by the Electoral Tribunal)

If you are a permanent resident of Panama, you will be issued a Permanent Resident Card by the National Immigration Service of Panama. In addition, you must apply for a Permanent Resident ID Card issued by Panama’s Electoral Tribunal — the same authority that issues national ID cards to Panamanian citizens.

This is the type of card most businesses recognize when you request a senior citizen discount or use it for general identification purposes.

Even though your immigration status as a permanent resident does not expire, the physical card must be renewed periodically. The validity of your card is typically 10 years, and once expired, it must be replaced to ensure your identification remains valid in Panama.

đź“‹ Requirements to Renew Your Permanent Resident Card

To renew your card, you must visit the Tribunal Electoral in Panama City or any provincial office. You will generally need to present:

  1. Your expired Permanent Resident Card (original).

  2. Your valid passport.

  3. A copy of the immigration resolution and/or Permanent Resident Card issued by the National Immigration Service.

  4. Payment receipt for the renewal fee.

You may also need to update your photograph and personal information if there have been any changes (such as marital status or address).

đź“… Processing Time

The renewal process usually takes a few business days, and you will be notified when your new card is ready for pickup. You may also request to have the card sent to the Electoral Tribunal office nearest to your location within the Republic of Panama.

đź’ˇ Important Tip

Appointments for the renewal of permanent resident cards must be scheduled online. The Electoral Tribunal’s system does not allow appointments to be made for applicants whose permanent resident cards are not yet close to expiration.

The renewal of permanent resident cards, also known as E-Cedulas, is permitted either after they expire or within the six months preceding their expiration.

If your card has been lost, damaged, or stolen, you may request a duplicate from the Electoral Tribunal of Panama.

Keeping your card up to date ensures that you can complete banking, immigration, and legal procedures in Panama without any inconvenience.
